The U.S. Military was actually field testing something like this about a year back. [link]

Indeed. Served as primary inspiration, along with the ammo container for the M-61 Vulcan Raven carries in MGS1, in miniature.

You're welcome.

Mine as well, in fact I based a mounted railgun on its layout.

I actually worked on a weapon with linkless feed (specifically, the M230 Chain Gun, as mounted on the AH-64) when I was in the US Army. Without links, the weapon relies upon a conveyer belt to transfer rounds from the ammo drum to the gun; this conveyer belt requires a motor to run it, and the motor requires electrical power to run.

I'm not certain an infantry weapon merits the use of linkless feed- the tradeoffs don't seem worthwhile.

The canisters have a motor and a battery in the centre. Power is supplied by a V-Non battery pack. Vespomide is my applied phlebotinum power source, so its small and light but very powerful.

Can't really say how effective the system would be, but it does feel sci-fi :)

I think it more of a Browning M2, and the DShk machine gun.
But I also see elements of the LSAT, and the FN Mag.
Watch me if you want for gun designs!!
Where are you from? Scotland? Wales? England? North Ireland?

Either way, youre a brit, and I love the UK, never been there, but I want.

You should be proud

Also, I love your icon, makes me remember of Command an Conquer types of games, and the freemasons symbol. From what is it?

Symbology is an art for me. The way to express and transmit thoughts in a clever and simpler way

Apologies, only just saw this part of the post.
