So'a

So’a is a Suna word meaning ‘Conduit’ used to refer to the hands of a female kelit, through which the electrical energy generated within their ryuk is discharged. Kelit, male and female, have only four digits per hand. Aside from a missing ring finger, they are very similar to those of a human. As with the rest of their skeletal structure, the fingers of a kelit have hypermobile—so-called double— joints. Coupled with increased grip strength per digit over those of a human and tougher bone structure, a kelit’s hands are ideal for climbing.

The so’a are connected directly to the ryuk via long cables of voltaon cells, which provide electrical insulation against the discharged current. These cables splay at the fingertips and pass very close to the surface of the skin, allowing the current to pass cleanly into the air. As the hands are the key to directing a ryuk’s energy, neutralising them is a priority. In situations where kelit are captured and imprisoned, they are fitted with gloves that prevent them from discharging any current. These gloves are often coupled with handcuffs to increase security.
